Ten Months Old

Our little baby is becoming more and more of a toddler every day. I can't believe it has been ten months since she was born. This is such an incredible age for her--I can practically see her learning and absorbing every little thing. She understands (I think) so many words (kitty, doggy, up, no, hello, bye bye) and she recently started pointing the remote control at the tv! (not sure this is such a good thing). She has such a happy, go-with-the-flow personality and she's so curious and active. She's trying to climb everything and can crawl up two flights of stairs, yikes!

McGrandparents Visit

Grandparents McBride and good family friends the Barrys visited us for a few days this week. It was very fun having them here, despite the unexpected sewage back up that lasted their entire visit!! (ugh). We made the most of it, although it sure was unfortunate timing. Apparantly this foursome has a long history of "travel adventures" and this can now be added to the list.

Amelia loved having company and charmed everyone with her smiles and "bye byes" and big appetite. Grandma fed her her first grilled cheese sandwich which she devoured, barely saving any for daddy!

We miss them already and next time we see them we'll be stateside residents again!

First Babysitter!

Well it has only taken us TEN MONTHS, but Sean and I have finally lined up a babysitter and are going out alone on Friday night!! We'll be attending a goodbye party for a friend at a nice restaurant. I may actually dry my hair with a hair dryer and wear a skirt!! We're really excited at this prospect, but I'm sure we'll be keeping our cell phones close by... Please let Amelia sleep soundly for the sitter!! (friend and former co-worker of mine)

De Colores

One of the many, many things I will miss about living in Spain is the onslaught of wildflowers in the spring. Entire fields, vacant lots and roadsides are filled with gorgeous yellow, purple and pink flowers. My favorite is the wild poppy. I usually have to restrain myself from veering off the road to stop and pick some (I'm not really sure if I'm allowed, and they are always growing across from a grocery store or something).


I will also miss the amazing cultivated flowers that thrive here--the enormous lantana bushes, the ever present geranium, the bouganvillia, hibuscus and night blooming jasmine. I know Norfolk has its famed azaleas and crape myrtles but there is something about the Spanish and their flowers.


I know, I'm becoming a flower geek (I think I get it from my mom!). Don't even get me started on the sunflower fields in southern Spain!

When will I learn?

I need to stop having conversations about Amelia's sleeping habits because everytime I tell someone how great she sleeps, she throws me for a loop. The past few days have been napless. All she wants to do is play or be held. How can I resist?

What nap?

Everybody clap your hands!

Amelia's newfound skill is clapping! Sean texted me the breaking news during my yoga class yesterday and today she's been clapping happily at the cutest things. What is a blog for if not to brag proudly about your kid's achievements? I think she deserves a round of applause:)

Happy Mother's Day Numero Uno

So my first Mother's Day was lovely. Sean was back from his conference in the States and he let me sleep in until 8:30! The fact that I called that sleeping in makes me kind of sad, but I guess that is all part of Momhood:) Amelia got me a card and flowers, and we went for a nice walk on the beach. Sean made dinner (this is not unusual-I am still not fulfilling this part of my mom duties) and we watched Lost. Not a bad day at all!

Bandwagon jumping

Well, I've decided to finally start a blog. It may or may not last, but for now it seems like a fun idea. I enjoy reading about my friend's lives and adventures on their blogs, and it almost seems like a requirement these days if you have kids.

I'll try to update weekly for now-we'll see how it goes:)
